Reconnecting to nature

Reclaiming the wild soul

Restoring the natural world

In the wake of a powerful new moon and solar eclipse the evening before; we wake up and head to the forest for a nurturing morning yoga and nidra practice in the forest. We will then gather around an ancient birch for a meditation practice followed by a fascinating and informative talk about the world of birch trees with my dear fried and fellow nature enthusiast Michelle Sawbridge-Praties of Peak Jewellery.

Birch trees

Traditionally the birch was known as a goddess tree, the bringer of promise, light and new beginnings. The perfect focus for this new moon forest gathering.

Why Michelle is passionate about the birch:

"I have always had a yearning to learn more about trees and often overlooked the birch tree to wonder instead about huge and impressive ancient trees like the oak. Then I began reading and learning about the humble birch and became fascinated with the seemingly limitless ways in which we can use different parts of the tree and the incredible eco systems with which it is interwoven."

Rootedness

Trees have long captured our imaginations and soothed our souls. In a world of restless motion, trees restore us to stillness and calm. Forests are the cathedrals of wild women.

For trees escape is not an option. What might be different if we met every challenge by becoming more rooted in ourselves and our place in the world?

Community

Trees remind us of the importance of community. Strong, healthy trees grow slowly but surely, bond with their neighbours, friends and families to create supportive networks, share resources and help those in need.

Trees do what is best for both them and the wider forest community. They know that their health and wellbeing depends on the health of the forest as a whole.

‘Rewilding is about becoming re-enchanted with nature. It is about nurturing our sense of wonder.’ ~ Marc Bekoff

Facilitators

Carly Slade

Carly is a musician, yoga teacher, rewilding advocate and women’s circle facilitator with a passion for yoga nidra, yoga for women’s health and menstruality and a deep love for music and nature (especially dogs, trees, mountain music and the moon).

Michelle Sawbridge-Praties

Michelle inherited her obsession with nature and being outdoors from her parents. Hours spent sitting in bird hides or next to a fishing rod gave her time to appreciate nature, including all the small things. She loves to notice the cause and effect animals and plants have on each other and the environment, and how we can try and understand these further.

INCLUSIVITY POLICY

These gatherings are open to women of all ages and life stages

In times past we would have shared so much more of life with each other than we do now and this would have included the raising of children. They would have been welcomed into the lodge and raised communally, garnering the invaluable knowledge and wisdom of the ebb and flow of all things. This inclusive and open environment is crucially important to the rewilding of life and as such our retreat is open to women of all ages, circumstances and life stages.

Whether pregnant, lactating, with nurturing small babies or children, with or without a womb, working with a monthly bleed or not, peri-menopausal, menopausal or in the wisdom years, all women are welcomed.

We all have our own unique wisdom to bring and stories to tell. This passing down of wisdom through the generations is an ancient practice without which we suffer. The reinstatement of the inclusive nature of moon lodges and gatherings provides an invaluable space of healing, learning, nurturing, retreat and replenishment. The pace of our modern lives means that creating this space that is more crucial and essential to our wellbeing than ever before.

If you are bringing children or babies we just ask that you are happy to be fully responsible for them at all times, to understand what that means in terms of your participation and to ensure they are kept safe.

Women only

Creating a space where women feel fully heard, felt and held is our aim for these circles. Many women have experienced suffering in some way, be that mentally, physically, sexually or all of these. We feel it is crucially important to have this safe space to explore the regaining of trust in our bodies, minds and emotions. It is for this reason that our retreats and gatherings are women only.

We do not wish to exclude, accuse or demonise men in any way shape or form, we are just coming together in the sacred space of our sisterhood to relearn how to trust and love, so that we might be better able to trust and love in our own intimate relationships, families and friendships.
